While Fibromyalgia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome are very different syndromes they are alike in some important ways:

  1. Traditional Western medicine has not yet been able to discover the cause of, or create any consistently effective treatment for either syndrome.

  1. Many sufferers turn to alternative methods of treatment because the symptoms are intolerable and are limiting their lives.

Why Hypnosis?

Fibromyalgia is a dysautonomic illness, a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system. Think of your body as being like a car. At some time during your life you hit a pothole and just like the wheels of a car can get pulled out of alignment, your autonomic nervous system became misaligned. Perhaps there were other potholes, big and small, along the way, and you began to notice malfunction in your body, just like a driver begins to notice the car pulling to the right, or making a strange noise. During hypnosis we invite the subconscious mind to realign the systems of the body so they can function properly again. When they are functioning well you can sleep naturally, move without pain, and enjoy a revitalized life.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. No one knows why it begins or why it gets worse or better. It is called a “wastebasket” diagnosis because the physician rules out everything else and then calls the symptoms IBS. It seems to be exacerbated by stress. Recently the gastrointestinal tract has been called the “second brain” because of its sensitivity to stress. During hypnosis we invite the subconscious mind to calm the GI tract so it can begin to function normally. We teach the body to respond to stress in a different way, a way that shields the GI tract from stress. Through the use of the mind you are retraining the body to function properly again.

Please Note:  All clients are encouraged to consult with their physician regarding their symptoms. Hypnotherapy is not considered a “cure” for fibromyalgia or irritable bowel syndrome, but is an effective method for symptom management.
